Paseo del Volcan Re-Shapes Enchanted Hills Neighborhood
When the City of Rio Rancho landed federal stimulus funds for local roadwork in March, 2009, the City allocated $14 million to jump-start the much-debated “final extension” of Paseo del Volcan from Iris Road to US-550. What had been viewed as a far-distant future construction project suddenly became a “shovel-ready” roadway.
The shovels broke ground in August, 2009, with completion expected in early 2011.
As “PDV” crosses 3.5 miles of Enchanted Hills residential area, there will be three bridges over existing road and drainage crossings,
In November, traffic on Enchanted Hills Blvd. was reduced from four lanes to two (one eastbound and one westbound). Though PDV will pass below grade at Enchanted Hills, the boulevard will also be elevated slightly above its present grade by a bridge over PDV. During bridge construction, traffic will be detoured around Enchanted Hills Blvd. to other neighborhood access roads.
